Medicinal Plants of Laos (Laowo yào yòng zhíwù tújiàn =Illustrated Guide to Medicinal Plants of Laos). Volume 2. 2024. illus. (col.). 408 p. Paper bd. - In Chinese, with Latin nomenclature.

Laos is one of the less developed countries along the "Belt and Road" initiative. The Miao and Zhuang people in the country have similar living patterns to the Miao and Zhuang people in China, and there are many similarities in the application of Chinese herbal medicine. The Lao Long and Thai people are similar to the Thai, Lahu, and Wa people in China. Because they mainly live in the tropical area of ??the Mekong River Plain and are adjacent to China, many botanical, animal, and mineral medicines that are the same as those in China are also used among their ethnic groups. Through a joint investigation of the distribution of medicinal plants in Laos, the research team photographed and identified more than 3,000 species with flowers and fruits, and conducted plant habitat surveys, plant photo shooting, and local medicinal plant application information collection for more than 1,200 medicinal plants. Among the species shared by China and Laos, more than 40 species such as Coral Grass, Honey Flower Bean, Belamcanda, Rootless Vine, Centella Asiatica, Croton, Gardenia, Gynostemma Pentaphyllum, Two-sided Needle, and Cinnabar Root are clearly recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. The remaining more than 800 species such as Tyrant Whip, Cloud Tree, Caviar Orchid, Olive Tree, Partridge Flower, Red Melon, Calla Lily, Centipede Thunbergia, and Fire Flower are recorded in the medicinal books of Yao medicine, Dai medicine, Miao medicine, and Zhuang medicine in China. In the process of investigation, it was found that more than 200 Laotian medicinal plants are also used or eaten locally. The "Illustrated Handbook of Laotian Medicinal Plants" was compiled after a detailed investigation of the distribution of medicinal plant resources in Laos and a detailed morphological identification and verification. During the investigation, we also learned and summarized the farming, living patterns, living environment, eating habits and diseases that the various ethnic groups in Laos are prone to. When the disease occurs, the local animal and plant resources are used to treat the disease. Due to the information gap in language communication, we can only summarize and share the commonly used medicinal plants in the local area. Their medical application and medical system theory still need more scholars and researchers to jointly and repeatedly verify, and share and communicate with comrades on the road of biomedical research.
