The inventor, editor and principal author of Flora Iranica, Karl HeinzRechinger, died in 1998. The botanists of Iran, a country where hismemory is venerated more than anywhere else, had the idea tohonour him with a posthumous Festschrift. 37 botanists, in their largemajority Iranian, have contributed 24 papers to this volume. Allarticles have an Iranian subject, and in there majority they are systematic and floristic, but contributions from the fields of micro-morphology and anatomy, karyology, molecular taxonomy, phytogeography,vegetation science, nomenclature and applied botany are also present.There are 5 papers on liliiflorous families (4 on Allium alone) and14 on dicot groups.Descriptions of 11 new species and one subspecies areincluded, among them Asperula oppositifolia subsp. rechingeri, Astragalus heinzii, and Cousinia caroli-henrici, all dedicated toRechinger.
