Molecular Genetics of Plant-Microbe Interactions. Proceedings of the Third International Symposium on the Molecular Genetics of Plant-Microbe Interactions, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, July 27-31, 1986. 1987. (Current Plant Science and Biotechnology in Agriculture, 3). tabs. illustr. XXXII,338 p. Hardbound.

Understanding the "language" of communiction between the host plant andthe microorganism may lead to eventual manipulation of these associations for the benefit of mankind. This Symposium marked the beginning of an era towards deciphering the "alphabets" of thislanguage. It is apparent that it is a two-way communication. The microbehas developed means of avoiding the defense responses of the plant andhas exploited plant products as environmental cues for controlling geneswhich are only required during this interaction. With the development ofgenetic tools in fungi, the doors have been opened for understanding andmanipulating devastating diseases of crop plants. Over 400 scientistsfrom 27 countries took part in this Third International Symposium. Eightsessions with 66 oral presentations and 3 poster sessions attracted theinterest of participating scientists from universities, research institutes, and private sectors concentrating on basic research and itspotential application.
