Embraces 167 species and varieties of 35 genera, 36 species and varieties being described for the first time. The material is, in part,from collections made by E.Mayr in Dutch New Guinea in 1928 and from parts of what had been Kaiser-Wilhelms-Land, or German New Guinea, in 1929. The balance is from collections made by G.Stein in 1931 in the northern part of Dutch New Guinea and from the Islands of Japen and Waigeo off its north coast.
