In this collection approximately 200 herbarium specimens of macroalgae are photographed, based on a herbarium at the University of Cologne, which was collected by Dr. Karl-Heinz and Dr. Gerlinde Linne von Berg in field excursions to Brittany and the West Mediterranean sea beginning in the end of the 1970s. Additional information is given for each macroalgal specimen depicted: actual name based on Algaebase, additional scientifc information about life cycles, geographic distribution, location in vertical proflie of the intertidal region, main features of the three large classes of macroalgae, endosymbiotic origin of algae, industrial use, and physiological and morphological adaptations to specific habitats.
