Recent molecular sequence analyses show that the algae are ofpolyphyletic origins and that their evolution is best explained bytracing the endosymbiotic events that have resulted in the originsof their plastids. This volume provides an account of the majorfindings in algal, cyanobacterial and plastid phylogeny. All majoralgal groups ( e.g. green, red, heterokont, dinoflagellate algae) aretreated in separate chapters by leadings experts on these groups.
