Combined with the Chinese data, the strategic thinking and development path for the development of botanical gardens in China are put forward.

The book has 11 chapters in total. Among them, chapters 1~8 offer general remarks, and chapters 9~11 are offer monographs. It comprehensively discusses the professional orientation, professional content and development direction of the botanical garden. It systematically summarizes the main achievements in the research of introduction and domestication obtained in botanical gardens, economic plants, medicinal plants and environmental plants.

Points out the direction and way of botanical gardens serving economic development. Comprehensively and realistically put forward the principles and techniques of species protection in botanical gardens, discusses the dialectical relationship between "protection" and "utilization" of plant species based on historical facts, and put forward strategic thinking for the development of botanical gardens in China in combination with Chinese traditions. The application of modern information science in information management of living plants is discussed. The historical characteristics of the development of greenhouses in botanical gardens at home and abroad and their functions and effects in the diversity display are analyzed. It summarizes the particularity and leading nature of science popularization and tourism work in botanical gardens, and the complexity and diversity of management. Introduces and comments the characteristics of the art schools of garden landscape construction at home and abroad in ancient and modern times, and the guidelines that Chinese botanical gardens should adopt.
