This paper gives an SEM account of the diatom genus Plagiotropis Pfitzer and establishes eight new genera for species removed fromTropidoneis sensu Cleve. Ten new species are described. The affinities of the genera are briefly discussed with some reference to the Pleurosigmoid diatoms for which additional illustrations are provided.
