Plant life in aquatic and amphibious habitats: Produced as a tribute to D.H.N.Spence. 1987. (Special Publ. British Ecol.Soc., 5). 1 portr. illustr. XIII,452 p. gr8vo. Bound.

The physiological ecology of amphibious and intertidal plants was thesubject of a special symposium held by the British Ecological Society inMarch, 1985. This was the first time that this particular aspect ofplant life had been the subject of a symposium and it brought togethereminent specialists from all over the world, many of whom havecontributed to this volume. 'Amphibious' is not a word usuallyassociated with plants, yet there are many species of higher plants thathave to adjust suddenly from dry land to an aquatic existence. Theproblems encountered by both crops and natural flora under soil flood ortidal flood conditions formed the discussion of this internationalmeeting.
