Plant Pheno-morphological Studies in Mediterranean Type Ecosystems. 1988. (Geobotany,12). illustr. VIII,404 p. Lex8vo. Hardbound.

The aim of the present study is to better recognize the seasonal cycleof the plants examined and to find out where and when each part of theplant - e.g. leaf, branch, inflorescence - originates and startsgrowing, how long it grows, and what happens to it when it stopsgrowing. Is it dispersed like diaspores, does it die eventuelly likeleaves, or does it remain alive as part of the plant body during thewhole lifespan of the plant or during part of it and, finally what isits life duration. Generally only the life history of leaves, stems, flowers and fruits was followed. The following phenophases aredescribed: vegetative growth, flower bud formation, fruiting, dispersalof diaspores, and leaf shedding. It is hoped that such a study of plantgrowth and development will lead to a better understanding of the growthand development processes of the plant on the one hand, and ofplant-environment relationships on the other.
