The World Natural Heritage "Three Parallel Rivers" area is known as the "World Biological Gene Bank". It is the most species-rich area in the world. Its area is only 0.4% of the country's land area, but it contains more than 20% of the country's higher plants.

Diqing Prefecture is centered on the Meili Snow Mountain, which is the core area of the "Parallel Rivers" area, with high mountains and snow peaks, gorges and shoals, forest seas and snowfields, icy lakes, vast and beautiful snow-capped mountains and flower meadows, rich rare animals and plants, and unique geological landforms.
