The third edition of Polish Red Data Book of Plants includes 370 taxa, i.e. by 85 more than the second edition, thanks to the better knowledge of the conservation status of many plant species, which has allowed to collect sufficient data to describe them in theook. In the present edition of the book we used the system of threat categories proposed by the World
Conservation Union (Guidelines for Using the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria. Version 9.0. 2011), assessing the status of a given taxon in Poland (see also Mitka 2010). Of he 370 taxa described in the present edition of the Book, 68 have been recognized by the IUCN as threatened on the global scale (The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species;
http://www.iucnredlist.org/), and 120 as threatened in Europe (Bilz et. al. 2011, Annex 1).
