A taxonomic account of Indian Pottiaceae, being one of the largest description of genus and species, types examined, habitat related information, specimens examined including those collected by the authors from different parts of India, latest nomenclature for each species with their basionyms, accepted synonyms. It deals with 130 species under 29 genera in India. The species were viewed in the traditional sense where they share characters with others, some isolated and endemic, and a few have geobotanical prospecting. The attempt has remained focused on assemblage of information for easier identification, line drawings for all the members have been provided for all the members, anatomical figures of stems andleaves.
