Red List of the endemic and subendemic trees of Central Africa (Democratic Republic of the Congo - Rwanda - Burundi). 2021. illus.(line drrawgs., col. photogr. & dot maps). 334 p. gr8vo. 4to. Paper bd.

This book presents the results of the IUCN Red List assessment of all 347 tree taxa with a distribution limited to, or nearly limited to, Central Africa (Democratic Republic of Congo - Rwanda - Burundi). As such, it is part of a global effort involving over 60 organizations, coordinated by Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), and culminating in the Global Tree Assessment.

Data on the 347 Central African trees presented here show that 226 (65%) of them are threatened with extinction. Of these, 42 (12%) are critically endangered, of which 24 may already be extinct. Agriculture, livestock and logging are the main global threats. The effects of climate change are increasing, and in Central Africa charcoal production and mining are also creating significant pressures.

Furthermore, this book provides a handy overview of all Protected Areas in the region, with the (sub)endemic tree taxa they contain. With this information, management plans can now be adapted and improved. Some recommendations are given. Targeted action is needed to ensure the survival of endangered tree species and all organisms (including humans) that depend on them.
