The 4th rev. ed. published 12 years later has been fully revised and augmented..

The past 12 years have been an active period of flora research in Finland and throughout the Nordic region, especially thanks to studies of many endangered plants and the ongoing joint Nordic scientific plant project, Flora Nordica. The results of both have also been utilized in the new edition of Retkeilykasvio. Thus, the number of pages in the book has increased by almost sixty and now stands at 656. There are a total of about 2,000 images, of which 300 are new. The number of species, subspecies, variants, and hybrids introduced has increased by one hundred, and now stands at nearly 2,300. In addition, the scientific name of a couple hundred other taxa has changed. The number of synonym names has been increased e.g. With names used in Russia. New names in Finnish have been introduced especially for taxa lower than the species. There are 1845 distribution maps, which is 44 more than in the previous edition. About half of the maps have experienced changes compared to the previous edition.
