The book deals with the Polygonaceae of the Himalaya. Systematics ofPolygonaceae continues to be a vexed question owing to the variabilityamong the taxa of this family. The book presents a comprehensive accountof 10 genera and about 70 species of the Polygonaceae with an over allassessment of the characterisation of tribes, genera and species basedon cumulative morphological evidence, reinforced with data on pollenmorphology and epidermal studies. A systematic treatment of the subjecthas been attempted down to lower hierarchial levels and several genericrealignments have been suggested based on pollen morphology and epidermal studies in addition to chromosome numbers and phytogeography.
