Crop yields and vegetation productivity depend upon a very large degreeon the interception of light by the leaf surface. Hence understandingof the generation of leaves, their persistance and eventual senescence, and their physiological processes are of paramountimportance in the quest for increasing productivity. This bookprovides an integrated, coherent account of these aspects. Although thechapters were written as components of an integrated advanced text, theprinciple contributors were able to present and discuss their conceptsin conjunction with the Thirteenth International Botanical Symposium atthe University of Sydney in August 1981. A valuable adjunct to thevolume is a summary of this discussion.
