*Vegetation of China (Vol. 5-5) Beech Forest* is based on data from 219 quadrats of *Beech sylvatica* forests across China. According to community species composition and main structural characteristics, it divides Chinese *Beech sylvatica* forests into 4 systems, 18 community groups, and 64 communities. This work systematically describes the geographical distribution, natural environment, community composition and structure, and community types of each taxonomic unit. It also summarizes the biological characteristics, vegetation dynamics and succession, and value and conservation features of the dominant species at each level of vegetation community. The work is rich in content, detailed in data, and richly illustrated. It includes quantitative characteristic tables reflecting system and community structure and species composition, statistical tables of typical quadrats of community groups, and photographs of community appearance and structure, visually demonstrating the community structure and appearance characteristics of each taxonomic unit of Chinese *Beech sylvatica* forests. The book includes appendices with a vegetation type list, a plant list, and indexes of Chinese and English names for vegetation types.
