The 'Vascular Flora of Chittagong and Chittagong Hill Tracts' has been prepared under the project, 'Survey of Vascular Flora of Chittagong and the Chittagong Hill Tracts', implemented by the Bangladesh National Herbarium and sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The project was launched in July 2015 and ended in June 2018. The Flora is an outcome of mostly the field specimens collected by five trained teams worked in five administrative districts of Chattogram Division (viz. Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Khagrachari and Rangamati). The area is situated at south east corner of Bangladesh. Chattogram was a former district now divided into two districts: namely Chattogram proper at the North and Cox's Bazar at the South. On the other hand, the Chittagong Hill Tracts was another former district now divided into three districts: namely Bandarban, Khagrachari and Rangamati.

This encyclopedic work of vascular flora is the Research Type Flora prepared on the basis of mostly extensive collection of about 40,000 specimens form fields. After processing the specimens from the fields, they are documented and stored at the Bangladesh National Herbarium (BNH) for future reference. In addition to this collection, previous collections deposited at BNH were also examined. Attention was also paid to the extensive major literatures written or edited by Roxburgh (1820-1834), Hooker (1872-1894), Kurz (1877), Pram (1903), Heining (1925), Cowan (1926), Sinclair (1955), Siddiqui et al. (2007) and Ahmed et al. (2007-2009). The Flora attempted to prepare an up-to-date account of most diverse hill flora of Bangladesh.
