Volume 41: Mac Dougal, John M.: Revision of Passiflora Subgenus Decaloba Section Pseudodysosmia (Passifloraceae). 44 figs. 146 p. gr8vo. Paper bd.
Abstract: Section Pseudodysosmia of Passiflora subg. Decaloba comprises18 species, including 2 subspecies, of herbaceous to slightly woodyclimbers characterized by uncinate trichomes, circinate development ofthe tendril, filaments of the corona in 1 series (rarely a few vestigialfilaments of a second and inner row in several species), and acucurbitaceous appearance. This group, distributed in Mexico, CentralAmerica, and South America, has radiated primarily into temperateregions of southern Mexico, where many of its species exhibit the growthhabit of annual stems arising from perennial roots. An overview is givenof the morphology of the genus Passiflora in comparison to that of sect.Pseudodysosmia. The fruits of species of sect. Pseudodysosmia areunusually diverse for an alliance of closely related species inPassiflora and include dehiscent reddish fruits and indehiscent purpleor pale green fruits. Flowers are probably uniformly pollinated by beesand generally xenogamous. Herbivory and chemistry of the group arereviewed. This revision is based primarily on study of morphology oflive plants from the field and greenhouses and of herbarium specimens.Four new species and one new subspecies are described (P. pendens, P.pilosa subsp. dimidiata, P. pterocarpa, P. trichopoda and P. uncinata).A key, nomenclature, detailed descriptions, citations of localities, anda list of exsiccatae as well as illustrations and distribution maps foreach species are presented.
