Russula is a genus of many species of umbrella-like fungi, with important economic value, most species are famous as tasty and nutritious edible fungi, some species have a long history of medicinal use in China, and can be used in medicine in single or compound formulas, while a few species can cause poisoning or even death if accidentally ingested. All species are ectomycorrhizal fungi, which are important factors for forest growth in seedling cultivation and afforestation.
This volume provides an overview of the basic characteristics and history of taxonomic studies of the fungi of the genus Agaricus, and records 159 taxonomic units of the genus Agaricus in China, including 152 species, 3 subspecies and 4 varieties. Each taxonomic unit is illustrated with morphological descriptions, habitats, distributions, discussions, and characteristics, with notes on edible, medicinal, and toxicity; some species are accompanied by colour photographs and scanning electron microscope photographs of tambourine spores.
