Building upon a general overview of coniferous forests globally and within China, this volume—based on data from 180 sample plots—systematically describes the geographic distribution, natural environment, ecological characteristics, species composition, and community structure of 15 formations, 42 formation groups, and 83 associations of coniferous forests, which are predominantly distributed in Yunnan Province. The text also details the biological characteristics of dominant species, vegetation dynamics and succession, as well as the ecological value and conservation of these forests. The volume features quantitative characteristic tables for formations and associations, statistical tables of typical sample plots for formation groups, community distribution maps, forest vertical profiles, population structure diagrams, and photographs illustrating community physiognomy and the characteristics of dominant species—totaling over 700 figures and tables, and more than 140 photographs.
