This volume, the result of Project Rooting, is the investigation of orchids in ex situ collections around the world, with an aim to understand and document conservation activities and acknowledge the contribution of individuals and oraganizations to orchid conservation.

More than 50 botanical gardens and other organisations were invited to write about their general history, orchid collections, research, outreach and future plans. In the end, 31 collections were able to cooperate. The book offers 31 profiles and data of the participating institutes, plus some introductory general matter.

This book is an important reference work for orchidologists.
